Waiting is Hard, But It Will Be Worth It!

Crews installing fiber-optic cable

When you see something being hung on utility poles, you might think that getting internet is “right around the corner.” However, there are still a few steps that need to be taken. Here is an overview of the construction process:

Mainline fiber splicing and network connection – Once the miles of fiber-optic cable are attached to utility poles, the fiber needs to be spliced and then terminated in a hut or cabinet to connect it to our network.

Installing drops – A drop is the dedicated fiber-optic cable that runs from the mainline fiber to your house. This step also includes placement of a Network Interface Device (NID) on the outside of your house.

Home installation and activation – (This is the best part!) We’ll bring the outside fiber-optic cable into your house and install the Optical Network Terminal (ONT). Then your Revolution service is activated and tested — ensuring you are getting the internet experience you deserve with enough bandwidth to connect multiple devices at once and no data caps to worry about — ever!

So, how long does this process take? From the start of construction in a new area to home installation, the timeline is typically about 6-8 months.

Here are a few things you can do to prepare:

  • Check the interactive status map on our homepage to see where Revolution internet is available today and when it will be available in new areas.
  • Be sure that you or someone from your household has registered interest in Revolution Broadband. Click here if you haven’t already registered interest.
  • Take a look at the internet packages available and determine which would be best for you to select when it’s time.  Check out our “Speed Decider” here.
  • Make sure you’re primary phone number and mailing/email addresses are accurate in our system. We will contact you with updates along the way and let you know when it’s time to place your order for installation.

We are as excited as you are to see our brand-new fiber network expand. Please be patient as we work toward bridging the digital divide in the rural area we call home. We can’t wait to connect with you!
